There is no one single plan that is recommended for people with diabetes. However, many suggestions are available for those who are diagnosed with diabetes. This piece of writing will focus on the making of an ideal diet for diabetics, so that they may control their diabetes, rather than the diabetes controlling them.
The first thing that any diabetic person should know is the amount of sugar any food contains in it. Sugar in any form is considered like a poison for diabetic, because it raises the blood sugar level really high, and insulin not functioning to metabolize it. Therefore, you need to have a tight control on sugar, and avoid all those snacks and junk food. However, it must be known that glucose is essential for body, and you can maintain a good glucose level by consuming ‘healthy’ glucose in the form of fruits, vegetables and beans. You can also have 1 cup of milk in a day, but make sure that this does not include cream, yoghurt or cheese. Alternatively, you can search the internet for sucrose containing foods, and consume them because they do not increase your blood sugar level.
Fat is one of the food sources that should definitely be avoided by a diabetic. This is because fat stores can accelerate the formation of more glucose in the body, which can adversely affect blood glucose levels. You can gradually replace the high carbohydrate and high fat diets, with a diet which contains more nuts, seeds, meats, fish, vegetables and avocados.
A diet which is high in protein, and relatively low in carbohydrates and fats, is considered to be one of the best diets for diabetic patients. This is because protein maintains the body weight, and makes a person feel ‘full’ easily. Hence, animal foods such as grilled chicken, fish or meat can be cooked with addition of some whole grained foods and vegetables.
A diabetic's diet does not mean that a person should eat only once or twice in the day. The aim of a diabetic person ideally, is to keep the blood sugar level in normal range; neither let it fall low, nor let it rise. Therefore, the diabetic diet should be planned in such a way where a person eats small but frequent meals. This will keep your metabolic rate faster, and will also keep you full throughout the day.
Addictions should be seriously controlled. This in particular includes smoking and alcohol, because they are two addictions that aggravate the disease, into a worse prognostic stage.
Fibrous foods should also be incorporated in the diabetic diet, because they are a good source of making you feel full, and makes your digestive system perform in a healthy manner.
Along with these dietary components, you should incorporate a good workout plan in your life, which should include brisk walking. This will help your muscles to absorb glucose, and convert it into energy, which will be helpful in controlling your sugar over long term basis.
